The Vail Valley and the Arkansas River Valley,
different markets and something for everyone!
Eagle County, located along the I-70 corridor is home to many well known resort towns and communities; Vail, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch, Arrowhead, Cordillera, Avon, Edwards & Eagle. The area is often simply referred to as the Vail Valley. An outdoor sports enthusiasts’ haven, tremendous alpine skiing and snowboarding, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and skating fill the winter, golf, hiking, cycling, fishing, rafting and kayaking during the summer. The quality of the resorts attracts wonderful restaurants, shopping and galleries. Truly a world class environment!
A short drive south (map) of the Vail Valley on Highway 24 from Minturn takes you over Tennessee Pass and the Continental Divide to Leadville, home of the Arkansas River Headwaters and Colorado’s highest peak, Mount Elbert at 14,440 feet above sea level. The short drive separates the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds. Traveling further south on Highway 24/285 along the Collegiate Peaks Corridor through Chaffee County the road is lined with impressive 14,000 foot peaks the entire way between the towns of Buena Vista and Salida.
While Eagle & Chaffee Counties share many of the same outdoor amenities, Chaffee has far fewer golf courses than Eagle County boasts and offers but one ski area. Located just west of Salida, Monarch Mountain sits on top of the Continental Divide and receives an average of 350+ inches of snowfall annually. Salida & Buena Vista remain very rural in nature and offer a contrast in environment and community in relation to the resorts found in the I-70 corridor to the north. Another very noticeable difference between these eastern and western slope areas is the climate; Chaffee County is far more temperate than the Vail Valley. The Arkansas River is a significant fishing and boating recreational component for Chaffee County and Salida hosts a surprisingly large number of art galleries for a town of its size.
A 23 year resident Realtor in the Vail Valley I relocated to Chaffee County in 2008. As a member of the Vail & Chaffee County Board(s) of Realtors I take advantage of all the latest technology to stay abreast of activity, market and sell real estate in both areas not to mention, as necessity dictates, being privileged to one of the most breathtaking drives in the country! I would welcome the opportunity to be of service with respect to your real estate needs; for sellers, the marketing power and technology of Prudential Colorado Properties is second to none and for buyers, I can offer access to any property for sale in two diverse yet complementary real estate markets.
